Remember, the essential concept of the program "Buy Low when Supply is High and Sell High when Supply is Low."

Also remember that to make a profit, any expense you incur in buying your inventory must be recouped when selling your inventory.

Top Ten Rules for Buying Hot Toys:

  1. Buy only from the Hottest Toys list

Being able to sell your toys depends on the major toy merchants becoming sold out of the toy.  If people can buy from a toy merchant they trust, they won't want to buy from someone they don't know.  Also remember, that just because a toy is on the Hot Toy list does not mean that it will sell out.

  2. Buy early

You've got to buy your inventory before the major toy merchants become sold out.

  3. Never pay full price

Take advantage of the coupons and special offers from the toy merchants.  In November, many of the toy merchants offer $5 and $10 off coupons on some of the hot toys.  Find these special offers and coupon codes on ToyFortunes.com (we update the specials daily).  In addition, check the ToyFortunes.com Comparison Shopping Results to find the lowest price among the major toy merchants.  ToyFortunes.com updates the prices several times a day.

  4. Never pay for shipping

Take advantage of the free shipping offers from the toy merchants.  Beginning in November, many of the toy merchants offer free shipping on toys.  The free shipping usually requires a minimum purchase of $50 or $99..  Find these free shipping offers on ToyFortunes.com (we update the specials daily).

  5. Keep careful records of your inventory and all associated costs

You must know exactly what you paid for the toy, including expenses such as sales tax and shipping, so that you know what price to set for the toy when you sell.  In addition, you must carefully estimate the cost of selling the toy (auction listing fees, auction final value fees, credit card fees, shipping costs, etc.)  These fees must also be recouped when you sell the toy so that you make a profit.

  6. Buy only what you can afford

Making your toy fortune is a risky business.  It is tempting to buy dozens of each toy in the hope that you will sell them for a large profit.  But even among the Hot Toys, some will never become sold out from the major toy merchants.  In that case, you will not likely be able to sell your toys for a profit.
